Intersession, an annual event at Danville High School, offers students a variety of unique activities they can do with their fellow classmates that range from learning life skills, playing fun games to discussing pop culture subjects. One of the unique activities offered is the Speed Card Games class.
Speed Card Games is an Intersession class run by DHS English Teacher Ms. Laurie Pierce, where students can play any card or Speed Card Game that they would like. DHS seniors Ben Tibbles and Andrew Lamb have been playing Speed Card Games for a while now, and they shared their thoughts about the class.
One of the more popular Speed Card Games that Tibbles and Lamb enjoy playing is called Dutch Blitz. The premise of Dutch Blitz is to score as many points as possible by playing 10 cards in varying colors from four unique piles quickly. Once a player has played the 10 cards from their hand, they can yell “Blitz” to end that round. As for how scoring works, a player will receive one point for every card they play during the round, and earn five points for going out.
Despite the complex rules of the game, Lamb and Tibbles say it’s still an easy game to learn. “Yeah. It’s fairly easy to pick up,” Tibbles said.
Lamb said experience doesn’t matter much, as someone inexperienced can easily become as experienced as a seasoned player. When asked if they would recommend the Intersession class to other people, both Lamb and Tibbles agreed that it’s an enjoyable class that offers a variety of card games with plenty of opportunities to have fun.
